5 Amazing things about Wisdomantics

5 Amazing things about Wisdomantics

Meet John Paul Norton. He is one of the 5 amazing people in my life. John Paul is a teen. He loves his horse Jocq and dog Ranger. He is a great older brother to Nolan. He is an active volunteer for disaster relief non-profit Activation ReACT. When wisdomantics reached out to us to see if he would be interested in writing a series of posts on their new app I was a bit apprehensive. John Paul is not a gamer kid but after he downloaded the game that combines fun, strategy, and memorization he was hooked. We will discuss my own views on the app soon. For now here is what John Paul has to say about the game that might just make him a gamer just like his brother, Nolan.

In full disclosure: John Paul was selected to be an ambassador of Wisdomantics.  He is delighted to learn and share info with you about this app over the summer.

Hi, I’m John Paul Norton. I am here to talk about Wisdomantics. Wisdomantics is a great game where the player guesses Bible verses and has to try to build King Solomons’s temple. I thought Wisdomantics was a really fun game. I really think this is a great game to play with family and friends. Here are 5 Amazing things about Wisdomantics:

  • 1. Wisdomantics has solo play mode. I recommend this for beginners. It is a very challenging but,fun game ,so the player is going to need a lot of practice. I am not much of a gamer, but this is a wonderful game.
  • 2. Wisdomantics has the ability to play with friends on Facebook and Apple Game Center. The player will need accounts to use both of those applications. But it is worth it all in the end to play with the player’s friends.
  • 3. Wisdomantics teaches Bible verses. If the player never learned verses, now would be a great time with this fun game. Wisdomantics is an excellent way to learn wisdom. My favorite verse in the game is Proverbs 17:27 “He who has knowledge spares his words,a man of understanding is of calm spirit.”
  • 4. Wisdomantics teaches strategy. In order to win, the player tries to collect tiles to build the temple. One tip is to trade blessing cards for tiles. I like strategic games, I think they are fun ways to keep your brain sharp.
  • 5. Wisdomantics has Pass n’ play mode. If the player has a group of less than four people you can play a game on one device. A great thing to do when you have spare time, like if the players are traveling in a long car ride.

I am still learning how to play this game.  More information to come and you can learn with me.  Soon, I will be playing with my friends through Facebook connect and game center.  I am excited to become the reigning champion of Wisdomantics

5 Interesting Things about Mascara

Warning: Grammatical Errors May Be Found (I wrote this post when I was drunk. Just kidding I was never drunk. I just suck at spelling and hate proof reading. I love when my readers correct me in the comment section. It makes me a better writer!!!! for realz!)

5 Interesting Things about Mascara

If I had to pick a favorite type of makeup I would say that it is mascara. It is not like I wear mascara daily or even every week. I like a natural face……. but if I was hypothetically stranded on an island and could have one thing from my purse, that would probably be it! Seriously! I have horrible eyelashes but my husband has beautiful eyelashes and so do ALL of my kids. It makes a mom want to fit in, ya know? I am still looking for the “right” kind of mascara for me but in the search for that……. I have learned some interesting, gross, and amazing things about mascara. So let me share……

  • 1. The stuff has to come off. Are you too tired after a night out on the town to wash your face or remove your makeup? It has to come off. Evidently, leaving it on can make my eyes go bald. Evidently, when the mascara dries overnight, it can cause your lashes to fall out. Wtheckkkkk????? Yo! The ingredients can create stiff lashes which I might inadvertently itch in my sleep putting myself in danger of scratching my corneas and loosing lashes………Ok, so I can’t be lazy after a wild night clubbing in my 30’s! Got it! I don’t want bald eyes! I want lashes for days. Lesson #1
  • 2. You can moisturize your lashes! ……..Just like you can moisturize your face. Before bed, agawhen you are the most tired and all you want is to close your eyes, it is recommended by some to keep an old mascara brush dip it in olive oil and keep your lashes hydrated. Oil in your eyes suck so if you decide to do this, just be careful. Lavender is also suggested by some to be used on a brush and then applied to the eye.
  • 3. Apply mascara using a plastic spoon. For real this is not a joke. This is supposed to reduce smudging. You may look ridiculous doing this but according to my teen this isn’t a stretch for me. Applying your mascara in this way can actually help you avoid getting your eyelids to get mascara on them. I wonder if it will help curl my eyelashes too? Does anyone know the answer to this question?

  • 4. So, evidently clear mascara has a purpose! Color me dumb! 🙂 Clear mascara coats lashes with clear mascara after an application to give a more polished and finished look. This will helps to seal the deal with your lashes, protect the mascara running, and if I have a mental breakdown and end up in tears it is supposed to make me not look like crazy psycho Taylor Swift.

  • 5. Mascara was invented by a man. Ummmmmm not sure what to say here. Does that surprise anyone? Eugéne Rimmel, a French perfumer and cosmetics inventor, created the first mascara in the 1830s. Talk about leaving a legacy. This mans last name, “rimmel”, translates to the word “mascara” in French, Portuguese, Romanian, Turkish, and Arabic.

High Five Dude!!! Even if you are dead that is quite an accomplishment.

Some other things that are gross and not as amazing. Mascara expires every 3 months. Nasty Nasty fungus and bacterial things can happen in them too. If find this amazing read up. Evidently lots of people on the internet have a ton of things to say about gross mascara stuff that is NOT amazing.

What kind of Mascara do y’all use?………. Because, I have an anxiety attack in the makeup isle. There has to be a moderate priced somewhat healthy bacteria free tube of lash friendly mascara out there for me. Is there moisturizing kind? I have so many questions about something so trivial. #firstworldproblems (but seriously if you know of an amazing brand tell me below)

5 Amazing Things about Summer

The summer is finally here and I could not be more excited.

Warmer Temperatures!  It means more fresh air and less blankets.  It means adventures and it no bed time routines for our family.  Warmer Tempatures certainly is 1 of many amazing things that summer brings.
No shoes (or maybe sandals)! Summer means less boots and more sand.  If you know me at all, you know that my life revolves around my ugg collection. It’s time for me to weed through all boots and bring out the sandals.

Cape May County Comes to Life!  No one would understand the significance of this amazing thing unless you lived in Cape May, Nj.  People travel far and wide to visit the shore and in the summer there is much to offer. You know it is summer when

Horseback rides! For the first time in 18 years I rode a horse last November. Let the riding begin.  Trail rides, Beach rides, and horse shows.

Friends! If we do summer right we slow down.  We enjoy the stars.  We enjoy the sun.  We enjoy each other.

What are you favorite things about the summer? Think about it. Summer is here. Make sure every second counts.

5 Reasons Why we are Considering Franklin Virtual High School

This post is prompted by Activation ReACT’s Prefill the Response Trailer Fund for Environmental Disasters such as hurricanes, floods, landslides ect…..! Because a lot of their volunteer based involvement is with HighSchool aged students, Franklin Online School reached out to creatively work with Activation ReACT. I was not compensated to write this post but am deeply involved with Activation ReACT and their rebuilding efforts.

I never planned on homeschooling. It wasn’t on my list of things to do as a mom. But, if you are a parent you probably know that things rarely go as planned when raising your children. My oldest, Paul John, well officially be a teen in 3 months. #Wow He is in 7th grade. We do normal things (Meaning don’t worry he has plenty of friends and is socialized) He rides his horse and occasionally sings on stage. He loves his siblings but there is no doubt he is growing up. With growing up comes many decisions, High School from Home is one of them. It’s a group decision between his parents and I. We live in a no bus district so we are still investigating transportation options but while we do that we are also considering many online schools. Here are 5 of our favorite advantages to homeschooling.

1. Flexibility: Each household is run differently and ours is no different, in fact I would venture to say it is very different. We school Friday-Tues and Wednesday and Thursday is our weekend. I am a Marketing and Wedding Planner (which mainly means I work on the weekends) and my husband also works Friday-Tuesday so we get to share the weekends together.

2. More then Mom: Franklin Virtual School provides real, live, teachers! Paul John has an advisor, a homeroom teacher and core + elective subject matter teachers. I was delighted to find out he also has tutors that can be available to help at any time. This is huge to me. Some of what He is learning is beyond me and I do work 40 hours a week plus homeschool 2 other homeschool. Having tutors talk him through this.

3. Fully Accredited: One of my biggest fears is that my children will struggle getting into college or another school if we decide not to homeschool. Their is a peace of mind with Franklin Virtual School because life throws you curve balls. He could end up graduating from a brick and mortar school. We plan year to year and sometimes our schedules are different and Paul John can go to a physical building. When he gets his own car maybe he will be able and want to drive himself back and forth to school. When you work with a fully accredited program this will be an easier transition.

4. Open 24 hours a day: Mornings are crazy in this house. We have a toddler, an elementary kid, and a soon to be high schooler(insert tears here)! Routine is hard for us to get started and anything can throw the whole day off but having a school being open 24 hours seems like a bonus.

5. Big Dreams: My kids have big goals and big dreams. With their option of summer school Paul John is excited to finish high school early, relax for a little bit, and then dive into a 6 year school program to get his dream career into action.

We still have one year to decide if High School from Home is the right option for us. For now, I am just going to enjoy the moment. The moments where we are all reading the same books and have book club with our friends. I will enjoy teaching the colors of the rainbow. I will enjoy math problems that I can compute in my head and not on paper. (the easy ones). I will enjoy us all on the same schedule. I know these days will change when Paul John is in high school. For now I will just enjoy where we are but that won’t stop me from thinking ahead and considering Franklin High School and their Highschool from Home program.
